I learned to make this ornament from my upline, Cindy. I think it looks like an artichoke but everyone calls it a pine cone. : )

The pine cone looks complicated but is very easy.
We used one sheet of 12 x 12 DSP and cut it into 1" x 2" rectangles.
We folded each piece into little triangles, pulling the corner into the middle of the rectangle.
Because the paper is double sided, we folded half in one direction and the other half in the other. This created the two tone you see above.
Then started pinning the triangles to the ball, starting with a square - four points meeting.
From there we kept pining at the points alternating color rows.Find more detailed directions here.
